The Ecodan® range of residential heating products from Mitsubishi Electric has received further recognition at the Micropower Awards Dinner with the manufacturer praised for advancing the acceptability of air source heat pumps.

“Heating still accounts for over 70% of the energy used in the average home and we know heat pumps can make a real difference in cutting this, but only if we can get people to understand the benefits that they offer over more traditional forms of heating,” explained John Kellett, managing director of Mitsubishi Electric’s Heating Department.

Ecodan was shortlisted in the ‘Innovation’ category and although the overall award went to a MicroCHP boiler, Ecodan was highly commended by the judges for the way Mitsubishi Electric has designed the low carbon heating system to be easy to install by existing plumbers and heating specialists.

“We have deliberately targeted Ecodan at the traditional boiler installers and made it as easy as possible for them to adapt to this new technology, so that they can help promote this low carbon, low running cost alternative to gas and oil heating.

“It is fantastic that the judges have acknowledged this and we will be continuing to use recognition such as this to promote Ecodan because we realise that the more air source heat pumps we as a country can use, the more hard-pressed households can be helped to reduce their running costs and lower the UK’s emissions spent on heating will be.”
