A low-maintenance air source heat pump can be 50% cheaper to install than a solar source. An independent assessment by National Energy Action calculates that air source heat pumps operate at efficiencies between 270% and 370%.

The latest addition to Trianco’s range of cost-effective Activair air source heat pumps packs 18kW of power through a single-phase electricity connection, enabling even more households to benefit from greater energy savings. The compact, easy-to-fit new 18kW (maximum output) is the same size as the Activair 12kW version and is available from £2,750.

18kW at 20ºC ambient air temperature is delivered through 50% more coils and a larger heat exchanger. It easily meets a family’s combined heating and hot water needs in average households running up to 10 radiators.

Stuart Shillito, Trianco's technical director, says: “With its single-phase connection, the new Activair S1800S opens the door for even more users and even larger properties to source energy for heating and hot water from a renewable source. For such a large output, the S1800S has exceptionally low noise levels. In addition, its visible dials provide easy monitoring of the system’s performance.

The Activair S1800S is ideally suited to the expanding underfloor heating market as it operates very efficiently at lower average temperatures between 35 ºC - 40ºC. Weighing just 150kg, it is quick and simple to install. “Heating engineers regard the Activair as a straightforward ‘fit and forget’ job that then only needs minimum annual maintenance to support it,” says Shillito.

Demand from engineers for Trianco’s Activair training courses, which cost just £50, remains strong, confirming the growing popularity of air source heat pump technology, especially from households seeking to reduce their energy bills during the economic downturn and uncertain over future fossil fuel prices and availability. Trianco’s Activair is also backed by its ever-growing approved engineer database which now has well over 100 engineers listed.
