Two new schemes have just started in Scotland and Wales following the success of the Boiler Scrappage Scheme in England, which concluded recently after allocation of all the allotted 125,000 vouchers worth £400 off a replacement energy efficient boiler.

Honeywell has welcomed the new Boiler Scrappage Scheme in Scotland and the Home Energy Efficiency Scheme (HEES) in Wales. Up to 5,000 households in Scotland with inefficient "G-rated" boilers can claim £400 off a new, modern energy efficient boiler. Meanwhile, HEES in Wales supports vulnerable groups considered to be in, or at risk of, fuel poverty by providing a package of heating and insulation improvements up to the value of £3,600 (or £5,000 where oil central heating is required).

Both schemes are an opportunity to make huge additional energy savings simply by upgrading the heating controls. From Government figures, 8.5 million UK homes do not have a room thermostat. Industry testing shows that modern energy saving Time Proportional Integral (TPI) thermostats can provide fuel savings of as much as 10% compared with a traditional mechanical thermostat.

A new boiler needs high efficiency controls to allow it to work properly, says Honeywell. So, when the boiler is replaced, a new thermostat with advanced energy saving TPI control should be fitted.

Sundial RF2 wireless control packs from Honeywell are designed to make the upgrade to energy efficient control clean, quick and simple. They include a wireless enabled timer and a wireless thermostat, so there are no control cables to run and no cable holes to drill. There is no disruption and no damage to the décor. The controls and their large clear displays have been very carefully designed to be very easy to use by people of all ages and abilities.
