Alfa Laval launches Mini ECO installation-ready and fully automatic heating and hot water substation

Alfa Laval's Mini ECO is a compact, efficient, installation-ready and fully automatic heating and hot water substation for use in detached and semi-detached houses connected into a district heating network.

The Alfa Laval Mini ECO employs two separate heat exchangers to transfer heat from a district heating system to the heating and hot water circuits in individual dwellings. Not only does this isolate individual flats or houses from high-pressures and temperatures but it also confines any risk of gas leaks to the principal network.

The Mini ECO has automatic temperature controls for both central heating and hot water supply. The heating circuit is adjusted in relation to the outdoor temperature and the required indoor temperature via a thermostatic control, outdoor sensor and/or indoor sensor. When no heating flow is required, the heating circulation pump stops automatically. It is also run occasionally when not in use to prevent it seizing up.

A high capacity heat exchanger heats the incoming mains water, ensuring a continuous supply of fresh, hot water. A self-sensing temperature regulator controls the hot water temperature by measuring the temperature of the hot water in the heat exchanger and automatically adjusting the outgoing flow. This patented Alfa Laval design ensures a constant hot water temperature irrespective of volume and pressure flow.

All plates and pipes in the two heat exchangers are made of acid-resistant stainless steel, and like all the components are carefully tested in accordance with Alfa Laval’s 9001 quality assurance system. Compact dimensions, lightweight, well planned pipe runs and factory installed interior wiring help to make installation of the sub-station simple and quick.

Connections can be made up or down depending on the layout of the building and, with the pre-programmed controls, this means that the system can be activated immediately on installation.
