Oventrop valves specified for the new heating system in North London church
(03/05/2011)
Christ the King Church, Cockfosters, North London required a new heating system for the church itself, as well as a large hall, which has offices above, and other small halls. There is also a reception block which has five bedrooms above for retreat visitors and a Benedictine Centre for Spirituality.
Pasion Star has specified Oventrop valves for the new heating systems in Christ the King Church. The existing system had been in operation for many years and was a mix of cast iron and steel replacement radiators. The condition was such that venting one of the steel radiators sometimes took twenty minutes. Temperature control was not reliable either. Now the old system has been replaced with gas fired condensing boilers and modern controls. To simplify design but at the same time provide efficient heating, two circuits have been installed, one for the ground floor and a second, with its own mini plant room, to serve the first floor level.
To serve the two floors there are 60 radiators, all equipped with AV6 TRVs and Combi 4 lockshield valves, and twelve fan convectors. One plant room is on the ground floor and there is a small one on the first floor.
Oventrop AV6 TRVs have a settable insert which permits adjustment of the water flow rates to suit heat demand. To provide hydronic balance within the systems Hydrocontrol double regulating and commissioning valves have been installed together with ball and butterfly isolation valves.
The project was unusual in that the M&E contractors, Staward Engineering, stopped work when a service was scheduled for that area, or nearby. The contract stipulated that services, and on some days there were several, should proceed as normal during the project.
