Mark Group have launched a new carbon reducing boiler system. The Ecodan heat pump boiler – manufactured by environmental technology company Mitsubishi Electric – gathers over 70% of the heat energy it needs from the surrounding air. The Ecodan system is significantly more efficient at providing heating and hot water than modern condensing gas boilers, emitting 30% less CO2 than the conventional system.

With the average UK household producing over 4 tonnes of CO2 per year – with space and water heating accounting for over 70% of this – the Ecodan boiler can make a significant contribution to reducing a home's carbon emissions. Quieter and smaller than previous air source heat pump boilers and with an typical annual operating efficiency of 350%, the Ecodan is easy to install, requiring only in/out water and single phase electrical connection. The system can also prove a major asset to developers and house builders looking to achieve Level 3* of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Bill Rumble, Mark Group Director, said: "The challenge in combating climate change is to reduce CO2 emissions from us at home caused by household energy use and our cars – nearly 50% of all UK CO2 emissions. The Ecodan system can help make a significant contribution in tackling household carbon emissions. All our products offer a real and tangible way to minimise energy use in the home and are effective tools in tackling climate change.”

Jason Tinsley, Technical and Product Marketing Manager for Mitsubishi Electric's Heating Department, said: “As a country we need to build at least 200,000 new homes a year. We estimate that by 2016, over 72,000 tonnes of CO2 could be saved each year if these new houses use heat pump technology rather than gas to meet the hot water and space heating requirements.”
